AJUMA, written and performed by Katori Walker, captures the seminal moments of the lives of a family of women.  From a fiery great-grandmother to an unborn child, AJUMA takes the audience on a journey that explores the sensations and emotions of escape, abuse, love and legacy. 

This performance will be followed by a Q&A with the cast and crew.

About Katori Walker:

A spoken word and visual artist, Katori has performed at various art events and acted in two plays, a comedy called The Kitchen Sink and an off-Broadway drama called cherish Every Precious Moment. Her style is dramatic, humorous, playful, and eccentric. This is Katori’s fifth project with director Mara Mills. Their most recent collaboration was Earth Mother, written and performed by Katori for “Incite the Vote,” an event created by the Art and Activism committee. Mara last directed Katori and her husband Evan Walker in I am Dust Motes in Sunshine written by Bob Zaslow for Writing the Walls, a program at Hudson Valley MOCA. As part of the celebration in 2017 for Women’s Suffrage, Mara, Katori, and Evan collaborated on a piece written and performed by Katori, accompanied by Evan on drum, at the opening of Hip Hop Suffragettes exhibit created by Isis Kenney at Hudson Valley MOCA. AJUMA is a natural outgrowth of this collaboration.
