Viruses: 2 versions: Long and short, similar, but different.
Viruses:
Video of self-juggling my recitation of my prewritten words, listening and responding in various physical ways through the act of watercolor painting. This is the 22nd video completed after many trials and takes. If there was not a deadline, there could have been more. This video is two minutes long.
Corona Info-Wars:
Video of self-juggling my recitation of my prewritten words, listening and responding in various physical ways through the act of watercolor painting. This was one of the first of a long series of videos which is more spontaneous and only one minute long.
Poem: Viruses
An all-out assault!
Viruses. War on health.
Facts of Corona.
Colliding with Info-wars,
Conspiracies, truth twisters,
Inaccuracies.
War on knowledge.
All equally devastating.
But diluting, then overpowering the mix
Are weapons!
Wisdom, compassion, and joy.
Artists’ Statement:
On a personal level this work commemorates my participation with Peekskill’s annual “Painting Poetry” event. It was canceled. In an attempt to substitute my loss of collaboration with inspirationally motivated poets and artists, I had to devise an alternative by writing, speaking, and painting everything by myself. On an artistic level, the video performance is a response to losses and pain caused by two Viruses. COVID-19 and the viral info-war on truth, humanism, ethics, and planet health. But the final and most important aim of this work is not defeat, but inspiration and a reminder that joy, love, and connection are the true medicines.
